About the AuthorGeorge Sand, French writer, is the pseudonym of Amantine Aurore Lucile Dupin (1804-1876), later Baroness Dudevant. She wrote novels, short stories, tales, plays, an autobiography, literary criticism and political texts. She was born in Paris, but spent most of her childhood in Nohant in the Indre. In 1831 she released her first novel Rose et Blanche which she wrote in collaboration with Jules Sandeau, from whom she was inspired by her pseudonym Sand. In her first novels, transposed autobiographies, she equates the quest for personal happiness with social regeneration. Other works include: Indiana (which she first signed the pseudonym George Sand, 1832), Lelia (1833) and Elle and Lui (1859).
