About the Author | Alphonse Daudet (1840-1897), Nmes (Gard), is a French writer and playwright. Daudet devoted himself to writing, not only as a columnist for Le Figaro but also as a novelist. Then, after making a trip to Provence, Alphonse began to write the first texts that will be part of the Letters of my mill (1869). He enjoyed his first success in 1862-1865, with the Last Idol, pice monte lOdon and written in collaboration with Ernest Manuel - pseudonym of Ernest Lpine. Then he obtained the permission of the director of the newspaper Levnement to publish them as a soap opera for the whole of the year 1866, under the title Chroniques Provenales. The first true novel of Alphonse Daudet was Le Petit Chose written in 1868. It was in 1874 that Alphonse decided to write novels of morals such as: Fromont Young and Risler An but also Jack (1876) and The Nabob (1877). During his works as a novelist and playwright, he did not forget his work as a storyteller: he wrote in 1872 Tartarin of Tarascon, who was his mythical character. |
