OverviewMepilex® Border Sacrum All-in-One Dressing is the only 5-layer sacral foam dressing with patented Deep Defense® Technology – proven to be effective in preventing pressure ulcers when used in conjunction with other basic prevention protocols. The dressing can also be used to treat moderate to heavy exudate wounds in the sacrum area. It absorbs and retains exudate, and properly balances moisture to avoid the risk of soaking. This newly introduced improved design includes new operator tabs and thicker border edges, allowing for easier application and patient monitoring. For use in pressure ulcer prevention, the sacrum shape has been improved to properly cover the high-risk sacrum area; and provides better gluteal closure for maximum protection. The improved design still features Safetac® Technology – the original less painful contact layer with silicone adhesive. This way, the dressing is comfortable, conforms to the patient’s anatomy and can be easily removed without damaging the skin. That means less pain for your patients. This product has been shown to reduce the development of pressure ulcers by up to 88% when used in combination with other standard prevention protocols. Patented Deep Defense technology protects against external forces – pressure, shear and friction – and manages the microclimate, the main factors responsible for pressure ulcers. Mepilex® Border Sacrum with Safetac technology reduces pain during dressing changes. Good fluid management and retention. Reduces the risk of soaking When should Mepilex Border Sacrum be used? Treatment Mepilex Border products are used to treat a variety of exuding wounds, including pressure ulcers, leg ulcers, foot ulcers, traumatic wounds (such as skin lacerations) and surgical wounds. A recent randomized controlled trial in the United States showed that Mepilex Border Sacrum reduced the incidence of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers by a statistically significant 88%. The bandage can be used prophylactically for patients at risk 2. Scientific studies have shown that Mepilex Border Sacrum can influence four external factors that can contribute to the development of pressure ulcers: it reduces and redistributes shear forces, redistributes pressure, reduces friction and maintains an optimal microclimate. Note: The use of bandages as part of prophylactic treatment does not necessarily exclude the need to develop and follow a comprehensive protocol for the prevention of pressure ulcers.
