Book Description | The Wretched of the Earth by Taha Hussein... “Taha Hussein” excelled here in depicting several scenes from the painful Egyptian reality in the 1940s, a reality in which poverty, ignorance, and classism were widespread, a society that did not care about those without money, and did not look at those who were destined to live. Tortured. The writer made these different images come together in suffering, even if the names, places, and events differed. He succeeded in describing their characters completely, as if he was living them and seeing the finer details of their life, until he exaggerated the description, describing the walk, the stance, and the bending. The Dean of Arabic Literature wanted to send short messages to those who do not feel the suffering of those classes, to provoke them to change their painful reality. The motivation for this immortal social literary work was the hope that the 1952 revolution in Egypt would create a new society in which equality prevails and where justice prevails. |
