Sowing instructions included on every packetSOWING INDOORS Sow aster seeds on the surface of damp compost in trays, pots or modules. Cover the seeds with a light sprinkle of fine compost or vermiculite.Place in a propagator or cover with a clear polythene bag and seal. Aster's do not require high temperatures to germinate. See suggested temperature on the packet. Once germination starts, remove the container from the propagator or plastic bag and place in a well lit area. Keep away from frost and protect from hot sun at this point. When the aster seedlings are large enough to handle, prick out into 7 10 cm pots and grow on in frost free conditions. Plant out when all risk of severe frost has passed. Harden off over 7 10 days so that the young plants can acclimatise to the outdoor temperatures slowly.DIRECT SOWING In April May, sow aster seeds in a well prepared seed bed where they are to flower in rows 30 cm apart when all risk of frost has passed. The soil should have a fine tilth. Water regularly especially in dry weather. When the seedlings are large enough to handle, start to thin out until eventually they are 30 cm apart.Care should be taken when handling seeds. Some may be harmful if eaten or may cause irritation to skin.
