Beckhoff EK1100 EtherCAT Connector

The EK1100 EtherCAT Coupler is the connection between the EtherCAT protocol at the fieldbus level and EtherCAT Terminals. The coupler converts passing telegrams from Ethernet 100BASE-TX to E-bus signal representation. A station consists of a coupler and any number of EtherCAT Terminals that are automatically detected and displayed individually in the process image.

EK1100 has two RJ45 sockets. The upper Ethernet interface is used to connect the connector to the network; The lower socket serves for the optional connection of other EtherCAT devices in the same segment. In addition, an EtherCAT connection or an EtherCAT extension can be used for extension or to establish a line or star topology.

System and field supplies, each 24 V DC, are provided directly at the coupler. The enclosed EtherCAT Terminals are supplied with the current required for communication from the supplied system voltage. The coupler can provide a maximum of 5 V and 2 A. If higher current is required, power supply terminals such as EL9410 need to be integrated. The field supply is delivered to individual I/O components via power contacts up to 10 A.

In an EtherCAT network, the EK1100 can be installed anywhere in the Ethernet signal transmission section (100BASE-TX) – except directly at the switch. EK9000 and EK1000 couplers are suitable for use in the switchgear.
