CLASSIC RED CABBAGE VARIETY: From field to fork in 4-6 months! Red Drumhead is an heirloom variety dating back to 1860 it is a reliable red cabbage with deep red leaves tightly wrapped around a solid heart. Well-flavoured and earthy, Red Drumhead cabbages are packed with vitamins A, B and C. This long-lasting variety keeps well in the fridge and is a perfect addition to salads or veggie bowls and great for coleslaw
TOP GROWING TIPS: Plant in a sunny or partially shaded spot outside and feed plants if planting in early spring with a high nitrogen feed to encourage growth. Water thoroughly every ten days and only in the morning; too much moisture in the evening can encourage slugs and make sure to cover leafy plants like cabbage with cloches before any frosty weather. Protect from slugs and net against pigeons.
HOW TO PLANT: Red Drumhead can be harvested from June from late winter or spring sowings and October from summer sowings. Prepare the ground well by digging in organic matter to aid moisture retention. Then plant 45cm between seeds and 45cm between rows, sowing directly outside in shallow drills/rows about 1.5cm deep. If sowing early, either grow seedlings in a greenhouse or indoors to avoid frost damage.
