An iris of small size, the iris with sharp petals (Iris setosa) is a species which resists well to drought and poor soil.
The plant is well suited to a front of a flower bed or for naturalization on poor, stony or sandy soil.
It is significantly smaller than the iris versicolor and measures with its flower stalks 15 to 40 cm in height.
The high-pitched iris is fairly easily distinguished from our other native iris by its growth medium and its flower, the petals (segments of the inner whorl of which are very small) are at most a quarter of the length of the sepals.
This plant withstands a good period of drought and grows in ordinary, well-drained soil in sunny conditions.
Blue Purple and Yellow Flowers
This iris is a close relative of the iris versicolor, Quebec's floral emblem. It reaches a more modest size than the latter and prefers drier soils.
